Applications
  • Applications in the manufacture of parts and components for machinery, automotive, and agro-industrial sectors.
  • Applications are designated for the production of transmission parts and mechanical applications such as bolts, shafts, joints, impellers, screws, shafts for deep wells, among others.
  • Used as a clamping anchor in the construction industry or clamping fork in the transport industry; cold bending should be done slowly, uniformly, and in a single event, using a bending guide mandrel with a diameter at least twice that of the bar to be bent.
  • Can be replaced by AISI 1018 steel, as long as it is not subjected to welding processes, and if so, recommendations of this practice must be considered.
Characteristics:
  • Medium carbon steel with optimal forgeability when hot.
  • Excellent weldability, taking precautions to avoid fracturing around the welded area.
  • Machinability is moderate according to SAE J414a, corresponding to 55% compared to AISI 1212 steel (100% as reference).
  • Readily reacts to conventional total or surface hardening by quenching and tempering (induction or flame).
  • As a hot-rolled finish, its mechanical properties and hardness are below those mentioned earlier.
  • As a cold-drawn finish (directly from hot rolling), it may exhibit the same defects as hot-rolled, except to a lesser depth; refer to ASTM A108-13.
