Characteristics:
- High-speed steel with medium carbon, tungsten, and molybdenum; the most widely used steel in this classification.
- Excellent toughness, good cutting characteristics, hence its use as a cutting tool.
- Good resistance to tempering.
- Particularly satisfactory for cutting tools where edge maintenance and high toughness with good wear resistance and hardness retention are required.
