Applications
- Parts requiring extensive machining and requiring high tensile and wear resistance.
- Machinability: 83% compared to 1212 as 100%.
- Has high mechanical properties and is designed for applications subjected to high stresses, such as shafts, bolts, studs, steering bolts, etc.
- Commonly machined in automatic lathes and multi-spindle machines.
Characteristics:
- Medium carbon resulfurized steel with manganese and sulfur, also known as stress-resistant steel.
- Offers high strength and hardness and can be flame hardened to further improve surface properties.
- Untreated steel has been used where deformation and wear resistance are essential, such as spindles, gears, and piston rods, etc.
- Can be used as an economical replacement for tempered alloy grades.
