Applications
- General machinery mechanical parts, such as clamping or motion transmission elements (shafts, arrows, low-speed gears, worm gears, sprockets, bolts, high-strength screws, machine bodies, torsion bars, etc.).
- Also used as a mold or die holder, platen and sacrificial parts.
- When used as a clamping anchor in the construction industry or clamping forks in the transport industry.
- It replaces any carbon steel where higher mechanical strength or hardness is required.
Characteristics:
- Medium hardenability steel; in the annealed condition, it can be subjected to hardening by quenching and tempering to hardness values around 50 HRC (see general heat treatment recommendations).
- In the prehardened condition (treated or quenched), it has a good combination of toughness and strength that allows its direct use in machinery part applications.
- Acceptable machinability, around 61% compared to AISI 1112 (100% as machinability reference in carbon steels - Metals Handbook).
